Obituary for John V. Ceresani

John V. Ceresani, age 97 of Cherry Hill, NJ died on February 24, 2019. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Mary Agnes (nee Sheehan) and his brother, Joseph M. Ceresani, his sisters Connie Angiolillo (nee Ceresani) and Laura DiMario (nee Ceresani).
Born in Philadelphia on September 5, 1921. He was the son of the late Michael and Helen Ceresani (nee D’Amicis). He is survived by many nieces and nephews that thought the world of him.

After John married, he built his four-bedroom home in Cherry Hill, NJ. Working weekends, evenings and vacations, he finished in 1960, two years after breaking ground.
John was retired from RCA in Camden where he worked as a Quality Control Technician and Shop Steward for 40 years and President of Local 241. He was a very generous person and enjoyed helping others. He was always ready to share a kind word of encouragement to others, even when his own health was failing

John served in the Army in World War II in the Company C 185 Engineer Combat Battalion. During the war he was assigned to the campaigns in Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno Northern Apennines PO Valley in the heart of northern Italy. His Military Occupational Specialty was a Radio Repairman and received the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with 4 Bronze Stars.

John could do things most of us can’t. But what amazed those who knew him was his ability to fix just about anything kind of mechanical device. It didn’t seem to matter how broken it was, neighbors gave him what they thought were broken, useless mechanical devices. He nearly always got them to run again.

People will remember him for his big heart, his honesty, his sense of humor. He was described by his family as a "Mister Fix It Man" who enjoyed doing for others and spending time with his family. He loved fixing things for people and never charged them a dime.
John spent more than 50 years in Cherry Hill. He was an active lifelong member of Queen of Heaven Parish where he volunteered at many church and school functions and directed the building of the church steeple. He was a member of the Artisans Order of Mutual Protection, Pinelands Orchid Society, Brigantine Garden Club, and was a volunteer for many years with the Philadelphia Flower Show. Upon retirement, John and Mary spent much of their time at their vacation home in Brigantine, NJ where they enjoyed many wonderful summers and winters together.

His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that John had touched in some small way throughout his long and yet very memorable life. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service 10 a.m., Saturday, March 2, 2019 at Schetter Funeral Home, 304 West Marlton Pike, Cherry Hill, NJ 08002 where friends may call from 10 am to 11 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow Calvary Cemetery & Mausoleum, 2398 Route 70 West, Cherry Hill, NJ 08002. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in John’s name may be made to your favorite charity.
