Obituary for William Robert Magee

William Robert Magee died July 14, 2018 at age 94. He is survived by his beloved wife Elma Jane Shinn Magee. Loving father of William Robert Magee, Jr. (Paula) of NY, NY. Devoted grandfather of William Robert Magee III, Miles Colm Magee and Charlotte Grace Magee. Dear brother of Ralph Kenneth Magee (Eleanor) of Marlton, NJ and the late Thomas Henry Magee.

Bob lived in the Pennsauken and Cherry Hill area most of his life except for time spent at Lafayette College and in the Military Service with the US Army Engineers during WWII and the Korean War. His two tours of duty included occupation assignments in Italy and Germany. He was discharged as a 1st LT in 1952.

Bob graduated from Merchantville High School in 1942. He was President of his class and the National Honor Society. He also earned first team varsity letters in Football, Basketball and Baseball, and he was Captain of the Football and Baseball Teams and MVP on the Football Team.

Bob graduated from Lafayette College in 1947 "..with distinction as an outstanding athlete and student." He was a member of The National Engineering Honor Society, Tau Beta Pi. He also earned First Team Varsity Letters in Football, Basketball and Baseball. Bob also excelled in Boxing, Golf and Tennis.

Bob worked as an industrial engineer for Armstrong Glass Company for two years in Millville, NJ. He was called back to active duty with Army Engineers in 1950. Upon returning to civilian life, he purchased a partnership in a new insurance agency with a friend. Bob served as General Manager and Secretary/Treasurer of various agencies, either purchased or merged, for over 45 years. Bob's civic service included St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, the Cherry Hill Mall Lions Club, the Brooks-Irvine Memorial Football Club in which he was a member of the Board of Directors Emiritus, The Lafayette College Alumni Association and the Merchantville High School Reunion Committee, in all of which he held leadership positions. If Bob could be described in just two words, they would be, "He served".

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation Tuesday 10 to 10:45am in St. Andrew's United Methodist Church 327 Marlton Pike West, Cherry Hill, NJ 08002. Funeral service Tuesday 11am. Interment Locustwood Memorial Park, Cherry Hill, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Magee's memory may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project (support.woundedwarriorproject.org) or The Fisher House Foundation (fisherhouse.org).
