Obituary for Robert Woodruff

Bob Woodruff of Cherry Hill, NJ, died March 7, 2017. He was 92. Son of the late John and Sara (nee Magin) Woodruff, and brother to the late Anna Cunningham (Emerson). Beloved husband for 65 years to Dorothy (nee McCormick). Loving father of Susan McCloskey (Michael) of Washington Twp., NJ and the late Sally Hervochon (the late John) of Washington Twp., NJ. Devoted grandfather of Christopher Hervochon (Mikey) of Hilton Head, SC; Ryan McCloskey and Kyle McCloskey both of Washington Twp., NJ. Devoted great grandfather of Henry, John Robert and Sullivan.

Bob was born and raised in Swedesboro, NJ. He graduated from Swedesboro High School in 1941 where he was known by his friends as “Woody”. He proudly served three years in the US Navy during WWII as a radioman aboard a submarine chaser escort in the Pacific Ocean. After the war, he attended Ohio Northern University and earned a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering. Bob spent his 40 year career working for the Delaware River Port Authority in Camden, NJ. He retired as Director of Engineering and Planning in 1991. He also served as President of the International Bridge, Tunnel, and Turnpike Association. Bob was an avid golfer and also enjoyed model railroading.

Relatives and friends will gather March 31st from 9 to 10:45 AM at Trinity Presbyterian Church 499 Marlton Pike East, Cherry Hill, NJ 08034. Funeral service 11 AM. Interment private. In lieu of flowers contributions in his memory may be made to the Ronald McDonald House Southern New Jersey, 550 Mickle Blvd., Camden, NJ 08103.
