Robert Ellsworth (Bob) Sears of Cherry Hill, NJ died on October 3, 2017 at age 94. He is survived by his devoted wife Dorothea Rankin Sears. Bob was the loving father of Rosanne Sears Warmoth (Bill) of Glastonbury, CT; Lorraine Sears of Audubon, NJ; Michelle Sears Jones (Pete) of Wilmington, DE and Robert E. Sears, Jr. of Voorhees, NJ.
Bob was a wonderful loving grandfather to Jocelyn Warmoth Karp (Peter), Lauren Warmoth Coffey (Michael), Peter Jones and Maggie Jones. He was the loving great grandfather of Caitlyn Elizabeth Karp and Connor Michael Coffey. His nieces and nephews brought boundless joy to his life.
Bob was born in Trenton, NJ on July 3, 1923. His early life was spent between Trenton and Philadelphia where he played high school sports graduating from Frankford High School. Bob enlisted in the US Marine Corp on July 6, 1942. He had a distinguished career in the Marine Corp achieving the rank of Corporal. Bob served in the Pacific theater while serving as a heavy anti-aircraft gun crewman on the USS Wichita. He later distinguished himself by serving on the prestigious guard detail for two US Presidents prior to completing his military service in 1946.
Bob’s leveraged his analytic skills and expertise as a mechanical engineer in the manufacturing industry. He is well known for his many admirable qualities to include his devotion to family, vigor for life, generosity, patience, willingness to both teach and learn throughout life. He was a devoted fan of the Green Bay Packers and John Wayne. Bob enjoyed various hobbies to include cooking, fishing, camping, sailing, photography, and carpentry. He was most happy being with family for any occasion. Bob was an exceptional story teller and a US military historian extraordinaire.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his visitation Monday evening 6-8pm in The Schetter Funeral Home, 304 West Marlton Pike, Cherry Hill, NJ 08002. A service will be held on Monday evening 7:45pm. Interment will occur on Tuesday (2pm) at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Provinceline Road, Wrightstown, NJ.
The family requests that contributions be made to American Heart Association or the Marines Toys for Tots Foundation in lieu of flowers.
