Obituary for Frank J. Borrelle, Jr.

Frank J. Borrelle, Jr. of Cherry Hill, NJ, died peacefully on May 7, 2017 at age 93, surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband for 67 years of Rose (nee Rucci). Loving father of Robert Borrelle (Anne) of Sicklerville, NJ; Bill Borrelle (John) of New York, NY; and the late Frank J. Borrelle III (Janice) of Cherry Hill, NJ. Devoted grandfather of Michael Borrelle (Holly); Michele McCloskey (Kevin); Joanne Arnold (Dale); Elizabeth Connors (Joe); Robert Borrelle, Jr. and Christopher Borrelle. Devoted great grandfather of Matthew, Andrew, Meghan, Sean and Ryan McCloskey; Theresa Barron; and Michael and Jonathan Borrelle. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Anna (nee Astore) Borrelle and by his brother Robert Borrelle and sister Rachel Sheffer, all of Hudson, New York. He is survived by his sisters-in-law, Ellen Borrelle and Carol Rucci, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Born October 14, 1923 in Hudson, NY to hardworking Italian Immigrant parents, Frank resided in Cherry Hill, NJ since 1955. He was a United States Army Veteran of World War II, having served as a Morse code operator on a French transport ship. He was a graduate of Rider University with a degree in Journalism where he served as Editor of “The Rider News.”

For 38 years, Frank was a key figure in the American paint manufacturing industry. His first role was Editor of the industry’s monthly journal and, through the years, advanced to executive leadership of the thriving trade association as Executive Vice President. During his tenure, the industry organization grew in membership and scope and the operating budget quadrupled. “The Paint Industries’ Show” became the premier international event of the coatings manufacturing industry, attracting registrants from 50 countries. He and his wife traveled widely and built global bonds that increased the stature of the organization in the world of coatings and formed life-long friendships. The industry recognized his contribution with numerous honors and awards.

Frank retired in 1987. In 2017, an endowment was established at the University of Mississippi to administer coatings science and technology scholarships to undergraduate students. Frank, who was a long supporter of industry educational programs, was honored with an undergraduate scholarship in his name.

Frank was an active member of the Holy Eucharist (St. Pius X) Parish community in Cherry Hill, where he was an usher for 53 years and Coordinator of the annual House of Charity Appeal for 21 years. He received the Camden Diocese's Medal for Meritorious Service for these Ministries.

A man of enormous wit, kindness and humility -- a true family man -- Frank carried in his heart the following passage shared with him by his dear friend Monsignor William Brennan. The passage is titled, “How Do You Live Your Dash?” -- the “dash” referring to the time between birth and death.

“For it matters not how much we own,

the cars, the house, the cash.

What matters is how we live and love,

and how we spend our Dash.

So when your eulogy has been read,

with your life’s actions to rehash,

would you be proud of the things they say,

about how you spent your dash?”

Yes. The Borrelle family is immensely proud of how Frank, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, neighbor and friend, “spent his dash.” In his presence, one could always be assured of a kind word, a witty remark, and gratitude for the blessings that the Good Lord has bestowed.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a viewing, Thursday evening 7 to 9 PM and Friday morning 10 to 10:45 AM in Holy Eucharist Church, 344 Kresson Road, Cherry Hill, NJ 08034.
