Obituary for Darwin Kendall Thorne

Darwin Kendall Thorne of Marlton, NJ, formerly of Cherry Hill, passed away on February 27, 2017. Ken as he was known, was born September 6, 1920, in Butler, PA. He was married to the late Joan "Chris" Thorne for 61 years. He is survived by his son, Dave (Ellen) Thorne of Medford, NJ and Scott (Janet Fitch) of Philadelphia, PA. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Richard Thorne (Megan), Courtney Toffel (Jim), Ethan Johnson (Patricia) and great granddaughters Cecilia Jane and Alexandra Grace. Dear brother of Dr. James Thorne (Doris). Dear Uncle of Sue Martell (Ray) and Dr. James Thorne (Mary).

Ken fought in Italy and France in World War II (83rd Chemical Mortar Division) and was a member of America's Greatest Generation. After returning from the war, he attended and graduated from Grove City College. He worked for RCA and after his retirement worked at the Cherry Hill Racquet Club. He was a founding member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Cherry Hill. He formerly belonged to the Merchantville Country Club. He was an avid snow skier, water skier, golfer, tennis, squash and fisherman.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday March 8, 2017 from 10 to 10:45am in the Schetter Funeral Home, 304 West Marlton Pike, Cherry Hill, NJ 08002. Funeral service Wednesday 11am. Interment private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Wiley Auxiliary, 99 E. Main St., Marlton, NJ 08053. Please visit schetterfh.com to share your condolences with the family.
