Obituary for C. Thomas Eissler, Jr.

C. Thomas Eissler, Jr. of Vineland, NJ, formerly of Cherry Hill, died August 22, 2018. Age 90. Survived by Catherine M. Eissler and his children Susan Hart (Edward) of Marlton, NJ; Mary Pat Finelli of Moorestown, NJ; Elizabeth Barry of Tampa, FL; Theresa Scattergood of Moorestown, NJ; Kathryn Flynn of Absecon, NJ; Thomas Eissler of Moorestown, NJ and John Eissler of Dallas, Texas. C. Thomas Eissler, Jr was born in West Philadelphia and grew up during the great depression. Those years of struggle left an impression on him, as a boy. Tom also lived through World War II participating in aluminum, paper and rubber/tire drives in his neighborhood. He met the love of his life, Catherine Mary O’Neill at a Church dance and the attraction was immediate. So much so that they stay committed to one-another while Tom served in the Army during the Korea War in the famed 2nd Armored Division. Basic training took him through Fort Hood, TX and on to New Orleans for a sea journey to his post in West Germany. He often talked about the trip home and how he couldn’t wait to get back but first had to endure a treacherous crossing on a ship taking on the rough and stormy North Atlantic Ocean. Thankfully, he made it.

He and Catherine were quickly engaged and married raising seven children and pursuing their share of the American dream. Little homes in Bellmawr, NJ then to Cherry Hill, Altoona, PA before returning to a new home in Cherry Hill. That home on Belle Arbor Drive was where the family took root for many years with children attending St Peter Celestine school and Church.

Tom worked long days while he and Catherine made ends meet and also were active in the Cursillo movement and served the less fortunate through prayer and deed.

He was a conservative voice in politics and loved to debate ideology and news of the day at family events.

He was always committed to his family even through times of trials and didn’t run from conflict if his family was involved.

Tom loved to be with family, watch football and was thrilled to see his Eagles win a Super Bowl before passing on to glory with the Lord.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the viewing Monday morning 9 to 10:45am at Christ Our Light RC Church 402 N. Kings Highway, Cherry Hill, NJ 08034. Mass of Christian Burial Monday 11am. Interment Colestown Cemetery, Cherry Hill, NJ. In lieu of flowers contributions in his memory may be made to Sacred Heart Church 1739 Ferry Ave., Camden, NJ 08104.

Serenity Prayer
- Reinhold Niebuhr (1892-1971)

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;
enjoying one moment at a time;
accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;
that I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him
forever in the next.
Amen.
