Obituary for Brian David Bones

Brian David Bones of Rockport, MA, formerly of Cherry Hill, NJ, died July 25, 2017. He was 53. Loving father of Erin Bones of Spring Valley, CA; Bridget Bones of San Diego, CA and Patrick Bones 2nd Lt USMC of Twentynine Palms, CA. Beloved son of Teri Bones and the late James M. of Cherry Hill, NJ. Dear brother of Jamie Bones of Medford, NJ; Belinda Bones of Defiance, PA; Mary Anne Bones of Marlton, NJ and Caroline Bancheri (Salvatore) of Ventnor, NJ.

Brian lived a life full of travel, with a love of art and a passion for sailing. He leaves behind his three children, mother and four siblings. Brian was born on November 21, 1963 in Silver Spring, Maryland to James and Teri Bones. He is the fourth of five children. The young family settled in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, where Brian spent his childhood and teenage years. As a child Brian would spend many afternoons at the Garden State Race Track with his father, Jim. They shared many happy memories there. Brian attended Cherry Hill High School East, where he was an athlete on the cross country team, and spent his summers working on the Cow Tail Farm.

After his high school graduation Brian attended Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey to pursue a degree in English Literature. This forged a lifelong passion for poetry and a deep appreciation for the English language. He was the president of his fraternity, and worked at the Dumont Landis art gallery. Upon graduation he assumed management of the gallery and spent several years deeply immersed in the art world. Soon thereafter Brian moved to northern New Jersey to work for MetLife as a group life insurance salesman. It was there he began a successful career in group life insurance, culminating in the position of Vice President of Group Sales for Prudential in Parsippany, New Jersey. It was during this time Brian met and married Mary Gillcrist, and they were blessed with three children: Erin, Bridget, and Patrick.

Brian retired to Rockport, Massachusetts in 2009 to pursue his love of sailing. He was an active member of the Sandy Bay Yacht Club for many years. He travelled across the United States to race his Rhodes 19 sailboat in New England, New Orleans, and Chicago. Brian will be missed deeply by his family and the sailing community in Rockport.

The Bones Family was blessed to recently participate in Patrick’s graduation from Officer Candidate School for the United States Marine Corps. The Bones children will continue to carry on Brian’s legacy, and to honor their father’s memory.
